Dear Bob,
Thanks for all your efforts on behalf of the class of '65.
I have been living on Shelter Island since I retired from the UN World Food Program in 2009. My family has had a home here since 1957. Until last year I was doing some consulting work which took me to places like Kenya, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka. On Shelter Island I keep busy with community and local political activities. I enjoy gardening, even joining the Garden Club. After so many years living abroad I'm settling back in to life on this small island.
I attach a photo taken of me in the late 1990's in Bangladesh. I'm on Facebook.
cheers,
Angela Van Rynbach

Dear Bob,
Thank you for sending me the notice about Anne Sykes Hoffman. I was so sad to learn that she had passed away. She was such a hearty and positive person all through our school years. I remember meeting her at our 25th reunion and catching up on her family and her life in all those intervening years.
We will miss her spirit and enthusiasm,
Angela Van Rynbach
January, 2009:
Dear Bob,
Thanks for your email. My big news is that I'm retiring from the World Food Programme as of March 1 and moving back to
Shelter Island, NY. I have been in Indonesia for a year and a half and am winding up as WFP country director. I will miss
the international life and all the challenges of working in developing countries. In over 30 years with the UN system and
4 years with Save the Children, I have been so privileged to have been able to reach out and help many people, but,, of
course, never enough.
Angela.

Dear Bob,
Sorry not to have responded but if it's not too late, here's some news from
Mozambique. I am in my second year as UN World Food Programme country
director for Mozambique. My work is very rewarding particularly working
with women, school children and families affected by AIDS. I was finally
able to do some sightseeing in the region and visited Kruger National Park
and Victoria Falls (higher than Niagra Falls). In Kruger I saw the "big
five" animals (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos). The lions
were so close by we could almost touch them from the Land Rover. Nature is
really fascinating in southern Africa.
PS tell Brandt that my parents still have a house on Ram Island facing Coecles Harbor.
All the best, Angela

I received this e- mail in reply to the note I sent about homecoming 2001:Dear Bob,
I am settling into life in Mozambique. It is fascinating to be living and
working in Africa, a change for me. I usually come to Shelter Island every
summer for a few weeks, so I miss the chance to go to any homecoming
events.
All the best,
Angela

Fall 2000
I received an E mail from Angela last fall, expressing regrets that she couldn't make the trip
halfway around the world for homecoming. She was in southeast Asia, feeding the poor, as she
put it. I wish she would explain a bit more about the work she has done for so many years.
