August 2015:
I talked at length with Linda ten years ago, urging her to attend the 40th... I just now realized that I never made a note of it here, and I am sorry.
This year, for perhaps six months, I have called her and called her, and called her. Usually I left a usual sort of message. but one time I said "Call me back and I will tell you that I think of you whenever I see Geena Davis. Another time I said "send me your e-mail and I will send you a picture of me begging you to come to the reunion". I was persistent bordering on obnoxious.Finally yesterday an e-mail from her showed up in my mailbox. I thought I was dreaming:
Hi Bob,
Surprise! No, you are not dreaming – it is the real me. I know I am a rumor in my own time, right – LOL!
First of all, I want to thank you for your remarkable persistence and patience in trying to reach me. I really do appreciate it, no kidding. My sincere apologies for not responding. You may not believe this, but I was not trying to ignore you, or anything like that. It’s a very long story, but the short of it is yes I am OK, thanks, but as it turns out, I simply cannot make it.
I am sorry I will be missing the opportunity to see everyone again after all these years. 50 years – wow! In some ways it’s hard to believe. It sounds like you are putting together a really fun get together. I hope you get a good turnout and everyone has a wonderful time. Thanks again for reaching out. I’ll look forward to seeing pictures on the website.
