A January 2007 email from Robin:
hey bob --
happy new year. sorry about the returned e-mail -- I thought I'd contacted everyone about the change...I'm now, as you can tell from this message, r2me2@msn.com.
I do have some delicious news for the meeting house -- I'm a new grandmother! our daughter, cameron, had a baby boy on november 21st -- john bolling poynter --"jack" -- and, from a totally unbiased perspective, he's perfect! ross and I are having great fun being doting grandparents, and have even had a couple of opportunities to babysit. we're so lucky to have cameron, husband billy, and jack living here in norfolk (she's with the legal department at norfolk southern railroad, and he's in private legal practice) so we can see the baby virtually every day. our son, "uncle peter", is in his last semester in law school at uva, and will be joining a firm here in norfolk next september. I don't know how I got so lucky to have both my children come back home, but I'm thrilled.
hope all is well with you and your family...best in 2007 --
fondly,
robin

Hey Bob --
Sorry I've been quiet for so long...the basics of life sometimes get in the way of living. I do have news, of a personal sort. Our daughter, Cameron, is engaged to be married. Her finace was a classmate at UVA Law School (they both graduated in May). He's currently as associate with Hunton and Williams in D.C., and Cameron is here this year, clerking for a Federal Judge in District Court. The wedding will be in Charlottesville (where they met) in January of '04. It's all very exciting as we are crazy about Billy and they're so happy. Of course, this means that Ross will have to work several more years before retirement...ah well, such is life.
Our son, Peter, who graduated with degrees in History and Art History from UVA, also in May of last year, is working in N.Y. and living in mid-town. He's loving every minute of it, but maintains that it's only temporary, and that he will eventually come back to mother Virginia to attend Law School. At that point, being the only non-legal eagle in the family, I think I'll need to find sanctuary somewhere.
Bob, thanks for giving us all the opportunity to stay in touch -- it's a great gift. I wish you and yours a happy, healthy and fun new year.
All the best --
Robin

Hey Bob --
You're right...show and tell does not come easily, but here goes...
Children news: our daughter, Cameron, is a second-year law student at the university of Virginia...(where Ross' childhood friend and Yale roomate, John Jeffries has just been named Dean) and she has just been named articles editor for the UVA International Law Journal. she'll be working for a D.C. law firm this summer. Our son, Peter, is a third-year undergraduate at UVA. double-majoring in history and art history and will be working as an intern for the Chrysler Museum of art in Norfolk this summer.
Prior to going to work, and temporarily getting off the payroll, the kids are accompanying Ross and me on a two-week trip to Normandy and the Loire Valley in late May... Peter, who knocked off his entire language requirement in french (two semesters in 9 weeks) last summer, will be the designated translator...(regrets to Mme. Gordon, but I don't remember un mot).
Ross will be inducted as a fellow in the American College of Bancruptcy at a ceremony at the Supreme Court in late march...and we're all dusting off the glad rags to be in attendance...
As for me, I'm still doing commercial voice-overs at studio center in Norfolk, which markets its talent all over the world; I'm the incoming president of my garden club, still docenting at the Chrysler Musem, serving on community boards, arranging flowers for church, the museum, weddings, etc., and generally frothing at the mouth...
Just got back from two weeks at our place in Palm Beach, and wondered why I came back at all...being a slug is an easy lifestyle to fall into...
Bob... I hope all's well with you...I'd like to send a pic but I don't have digital capability, so send me your mailing address, and I'll get one to you.
love and stuff...
Robin
In a note that I sent back to Robin, I asked several questions, among them whether Ross was a bankruptcy lawyer, and she replied:
..."Yes, Ross has an extensive bankruptcy practice..I guess you could call that his specialty, although he considers himself a general business lawyer ...I'll address the other questions"... later.
01-27-01: I received an E mail from Robin and excerpted the following paragraphs:
Ross and I have reached a new level with our children. The weekend after New Year's we spent a weekend in NYC with the kids...AND their "significant others"...
It was a great time and made Ross and me feel very young -- inhabiting places like Monkey Bar where nobody else had a line or a bulge or even one grey hair. We are delighted that the kids seem to want to travel with us still, and we are, in fact, planning a trip to France "en famille" in late May.
Bob -- I think the website is a terrific idea. The older I get (and I agree that, at this point, 50-something doesn't seem old at all ), the more nostalgic I get about the "good old days" and the people I knew and loved at FA. Keeping in touch is more important than ever. I'd love to hear from any and all of you.
So...Happy New Year. I hope that it will be one in which we all reconnect.

hey Bob --
Long time! sorry I was in the land of the unconscious last night... I would have loved to talk with you.
You are a brave and wonderful soul to take on the class correspondent job. they tried to twist my arm, and I back- pedaled as fast as I could... hope you get a sidekick asap.
as far as reunion goes...we're doubtful. Since mom and dad are gone, and the Long Island homestead sold, I rarely get back. and besides, that's my son's parents' weekend at UVA... (both our kids are there, Peter is a third-year, and our daughter, Cameron is in law school)
I wish we could come...the 20th was so much fun...and I missed the last one... I'm sure you'll get a good crowd...be sure to give everyone my love.
All my best
Robin
